Welcome to the Master of Social Work Online Program

Social work is a dynamic profession concerned with the changing needs of individuals, families, groups, organizations, and society. For those who are interested in this professional commitment, social work offers a broad range of practice settings: community mental health agencies, nursing homes, hospitals, schools, employee assistance programs, family service agencies, and community service agencies. In addition, professional social workers serve as administrators of various social service agencies. They also work in all levels of government, education, and a number of social workers have assumed political or legislative careers. The education and training they receive in a Master of Social Work (MSW) program provides them with the skills they need to choose a career within the broad area of social work  The School of Social Work MSW Direct program is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).

The Indiana University MSW Direct program with a concentration in Advanced Generalist practice is designed to enroll full-time and part-time students each semester.  The MSW Direct program offers elective courses in eSocial Work and Telebehavioral Health Practice, Military Social Work and other exciting electives. All courses are 100% taught online.  You'll need a device, laptop preferred, with a camera and microphone and a broadband internet connect to be a successful student. 

Our online Advanced Generalist MSW prepares students to master multi-faceted roles for practice with individuals, families, groups, organizations and communities within diverse systems and settings.  Our graduates engage multi-faceted roles as clinicians, group facilitators, supervisors, community organizers, advocates, and policy analysts. Through a set of elective choices, you may also gain specialized knowledge in an area important to your career goals or geographic locale. The concentration is very well suited for practice in rural, suburban, and stressed urban communities. This means you will be able to work in many types of settings on social justice issues with people from all walks of life.

Regular standing and advanced standing applications are accepted each semester.  Indiana University semesters start in Janurary, May, and August.  Admissions is the first step, find out more about admissions today!

MSW Regular Standing (60 credit hours)

The Master of Social Work program consists of 60 credit hours of study and field work. The first 30 credit hours are core courses taken by all students, while the second 30 credit hours provide a concentration in interpersonal practice.

MSW Advanced Standing (39 credit hours)

Eligible applicants for Advanced Standing will have graduated from a Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) accredited program with a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) within the last 5 years.  BSW graduates must apply for Advanced Standing.
